WASTEWATER TESTING AND CONSULTING

Laboratory analysis is a critical tool in wastewater problem solving. It is key to a customized wastewater treatment solution that achieves both cost savings and process efficiency. To identify the best solution for your facility’s needs, Spectrum uses four primary testing devices: the microscope, a biological reactor, a respirometer, and a lab scale phase separator.

Through microscopic evaluation, respiration rate analysis, multiple condition biological reactors, and solids separation/dewatering simulation in our wastewater lab, Spectrum is able to effectively define a superior treatment plan and/or a solids removal and dewatering process for your specific needs.

OUR LAB TREATABILITY TOOLS

Spectrum Water Technology’s wastewater laboratory tools were created specifically to analyze our clients’ wastewater processes in order to eliminate costly problems and streamline the process for optimal success. Our wastewater experts use sophisticated lab tools to carefully study sludge and define the best treatment plan possible to maximize efficiency.

MICROSCOPIC EXAMINATION

Looking at a wastewater system through the lens of a microscope can unlock several
keys to the status of a wastewater plant:

  • Overall Health
  • Age
  • Ratio of Biological vs. Inert Waste
  • Filamentous Enumeration
  • Polysaccharide Quantification

After our microscopic exam, Spectrum is able to offer recommendations for improving your plant’s wastewater performance as well as provide options for limiting unwanted growth.

RESPIROMETRY STUDIES

Respirometry testing can be a valuable tool for measuring the impact of certain chemicals on your biological treatment plant. This testing can be confirmed in many cases by either batch reactors or flow-through Eckenfelder reactors. The reactors can offer greater manipulation of process variables and typically provide a more complete analysis.

TREATABILITY STUDIES

Our lab utilizes a combination of batch reactors and Eckenfelder reactors to analyze a wastewater process and evaluate feed streams. Most process streams or accumulated waste streams from turnarounds are biologically treatable given appropriate blend ratios. The use of these studies can give guidance to processing rates to assure biodegradability and no toxicity.

BENEFITS OF SPECTRUM WASTEWATER TESTING AND CONSULTING

Laboratory testing and expert analysis has as many benefits for wastewater processes as there are facets to wastewater treatment. It’s the first step toward a smarter, more efficient process. In order to solve any potential problems with your facility’s wastewater processes, Spectrum Water Technology studies not just your sludge, but your entire wastewater treatment process from start to finish in order to identify inefficiencies and opportunities.

Some of the most common wastewater issues our treatability lab can assist with include:

  • Disposal of High-strength Wastewater
  • Improving Wastewater Efficiency to Allow Processing of Opportunity Feedstocks
  • Overcoming Wastewater Process Upsets Due to Elevated Loading, Toxic Events, Turnarounds, Cleanings, Running Opportunity Crudes and Process Feeds
  • Poor Performance of Pre-Treatment Facilities
  • Poor Settling
  • Floating Scum
  • Excessive TSS
  • Startup of a New Process or New Waste
  • Treatability Testing
